POSITION PURPOSE:

Reporting to the Manager, L3 support, Linux System Administrator will be a member of the Managed & Cloud L3 Support Operations team contributing to the development and maintenance of web hosting systems as well as reporting system statuses to management in both verbal and written formats. You are an excellent communicator, interfacing key stakeholders including Global NOC, Technical Support, R&D and occasionally Project Managers. The successful incumbent has desire and patience to work with other members of the team to fix and improve existing services as well as add new ones. This position is the top of the support stack. You must be willing and able to take on any and all issues and work them to successful resolution.

REQUIRED JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinating with Technical Support to resolve all system-related customer issues.

  • Install/monitor/administer new Internet-accessible application servers.

  • Troubleshooting physical and virtual servers, network appliances, and applications.

  • Working escalated trouble tickets in a timely fashion by use of ticketing and/or notification procedures.

  • Automating administration tasks by writing scripts such as PERL, Bash Shell, C, python, VBScript, powershell and/or .NET as well as be familiar with Puppet deployment.

  • Installation, configuration, optimization and maintenance of web services including but not limited to Apache, DNS, Sendmail/Postfix/Exim and FTP.

  • Installation, configuration, optimization and maintenance of storage solutions including but not limited to EMC, NetApp, Compellent.

  • Available for on-call duties as needed.

Requirements

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 7-10 years of previous experience with System Administration is a must; preferably in a senior role.

  • Experience with the management and operations of virtualization platforms such as VMware & Hyper-V.

  • Experience with the management and operations of cloud platforms such as AWS, Openstack & Azure

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS) or another similar technical discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Proven abilities to promptly and effectively diagnose and remedy serious problems and failures.

  • Previous experience in a specialized focus in one of the following areas: backups, mail systems, VMware, Nagios, Windows Hyper-V, High Availability, Database, etc.

  • Familiarity with system administration on several variants of Linux, including but not limited to Debian, RedHat, CentOs.

  • Demonstrated abilities to perform periodic software and hardware system updates, upgrades, backups/restoration and security patches.

  • Working knowledge of failover clustering.

  • High-level organizational and communication skills.

  • Excellent team player with high-level problem solving skills.

  • Working knowledge of SQL and LDAP are assets.

  • Experience with security solutions, preferably with AlertLogic, is a plus.

  • Demonstrated ability to author technical documentation
