The KAM Support Representative role requires a high level of inside sales support skill generally developed through significant time as a Sales Support Representative and/or as an Inside Sales Representative. The position will assist with contract management, rate request & bid management activities, sales reporting, presentation preparation and transportation cost analysis. The role will also service customers to meet their shipping needs and secure optimal support in terms of revenue and volume via phone or email instructions from both the account and the KAM Director. The combination of the above skill sets will enable the team member to go a step further and assist with business development activities, including prospecting and securing new business opportunities from the assigned KAM Director’s account base.


Account Management – assist in contract management, rate request and bid activities, provide customized/account specific reports, general adhoc reporting & profitability analyses, customer information management (CAP codes, Credit issues, Customer Profile information), problem resolution (bookings, claims, equipment, free time, space allocations), CRM updates and other administrative duties such as preparation of presentations, data gathering, MQC tracking, pipeline reviews, etc.

Bid Management - assist KAM Director with communication, timeline tracking, interpretation, and completion of submission

Cross-functional department teaming – work closely with regional and overseas colleagues in variety of departments to include MTC and Trades, Customer Service, Network, Operations, Ecommerce, Finance/Accounting, Environment/Security, Legal and external intermediaries such as 3PLs, CHB, truckers, and any Association Leads working with KAM accounts.

Business development and Financial analysis – assist with business optimization and opportunity capture through port pair and seasonality analysis, space allocation, and alignment with APL service changes. Use internet/public source information to provide additional information on account direction for presentations, communication with customer during daily interaction, and monthly/quarterly business reviews with intent to help APL Strategic Liner Planning team with service improvement and new service creation recommendations. Monitor KAM account Volume and Contribution performance relative to APL awards and monitor/assist Account Receivable team with timely payments/collections.


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required. College coursework or degree in sales, marketing, business, and international trade strongly preferred. ​​​​​​​

  • Deep understanding of contracting, reporting and industry knowledge

  • A minimum of 3 years of sales and/or customer service experience required.

  • A minimum of 2 years of sales or sales support experience required.

  • Advanced MS PowerPoint and MS Excel skills
