Background

The Risk Governance function within the Chief Operating Office of Independent Risk Management is responsible for designing and facilitating the execution of core Risk frameworks and processes (e.g., Risk Governance and Risk Appetite Frameworks), facilitating the execution of key processes that enable monitoring and management of risks (i.e., Risk Controls) and associated stakeholder interaction (e.g., Regulatory Affairs) and for the oversight and execution of critical strategic and cross-Risk initiatives.

This position reports to the Risk COO and Head of Risk Governance. The Head of Risk Content will support Citi’s Chief Risk Officer in driving the Risk Organization’s strategic agenda and deploying strategies to continue building a culture of intelligent risk taking across the firm. This will involve collaborating with senior stakeholders to refine and execute the forward-looking vision for Risk Management at Citi (e.g., identifying key risk activities, understanding how they will evolve in the future – such as through technology advancements, and defining / tracking metrics for success). To do so, the Head of Risk Content will develop firm-wide perspectives across all businesses (ICG, CCB and Consumer) and Risk Types (credit, market, liquidity, operational and compliance, strategic and reputational) to create methodologies and frameworks for improving Citi’s risk management practices across the 1st and 2nd Lines of Defense.

Key Responsibilities

The individual in this role will be responsible for leading an analytically focused team charged with delivering against the following mandate:

•Facilitate the identification and understanding of key risks in the current operating environment and partner with leaders in all Risk areas (including Risk Management Executive Council members) to enhance practices that identify and manage these risks

•Build senior management and Board confidence in our frameworks, approaches and practices for managing, monitoring and controlling risks across the firm

•Conduct deep-dives in areas such as credit portfolio management, market / liquidity risk, and the underlying Risk Management infrastructure (e.g., modelling, analytics, etc.)

•Develop perspectives on key Risk topics (e.g., impact of evolving regulatory requirements) and lead strategic analyses on a broad range of topics such as macroeconomic analyses, competitive landscape evaluations and new risk management tools and frameworks

•Provide credible review and challenge to senior Subject Matter Experts and develop actionable recommendations / implementation plans for critical strategic Risk Management initiatives

•Execute and lead high priority strategic ad hoc projects across their lifecycle by identifying and structuring problems, analyzing root causes, developing solutions and obtaining buy-in for change

•Manage a team of 3-4 direct reports

Qualifications

•15+ years of experience working or consulting for financial institutions with an analytical and/or business management background

•Advanced degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or related field

•Strategic thinker (i.e., can “connect- the-dots” across potential silos) with the ability to provide thought leadership and credible challenge to Senior Subject Matter Experts

•Thinks linearly and organizes facts in a systematic way to develop and implement action-oriented solutions

•Exceptional problem solving, negotiation and influencing skills

•Strong presentation and communication abilities (e.g., comfortable presenting to very senior audiences such as Risk Management Executive Council members)

•Proven ability to lead organizational change and deliver results at a senior level (e.g., for the Board, Chief Risk Officer, etc.)

•Ability to manage multiple high priority deliverables and meet tight deadlines
