Det-Tronics, is seeking a highly qualified algorithm development engineer/scientist responsible for the development of innovative sensor system algorithms for challenging industrial applications. This position entails conducting preliminary research, computer modeling, and creation of concept systems, as well as the ability to assess technical feasibility, identify areas of risk and conduct sensor & systems level algorithm development.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The ideal candidate should be an enthusiastic experimentalist, expert in mathematical modeling, signal processing and possess extensive experience with complex algorithm development, programming & analysis tools.

Major Job functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop, model and test various mathematical algorithms for sensor signal processing, image processing and data analysis for industrial applications

  • Develop and validate mathematical models for performance predictions & analysis in sensor arrays and optical sensing systems to guide technology design for industrial life safety systems

  • Model and analyze sensor performance data, develop new sensor diagnostic tools, calibration protocols and make algorithm changes according to sensor performance requirements

  • Conduct preliminary research to support future product developments. Support modeling and experimentation for new sensor platform systems; Develop software and test instrumentation needed to gather relevant information

  • Responsible for self-directed investigation and development of new sensing technologies & design platforms

  • As a technical team member, this role involves identification, research and development of innovative solutions to complex sensing applications, including solutions that will incorporate “new to the world” techniques and transduction methods that result in differentiated product performance attributes

  • Define and reduce to practice all system and sensor algorithms needed to meet project goals

  • Recommend new development projects; Establish technical goals and define areas of risk. Work on development plans and make presentations to senior management

  • Provide technical leadership and consultation to Engineering and other departments within the company

  • Keep abreast of new technologies in the field of industrial fire and gas detection

  • Identify areas of technological improvements within the department and make recommendations of how to get the necessary skills. May conduct technical training courses

Qualification:

  • Proficient in sensor algorithm development and image processing

  • Proficient in Digital Signal Processing and Data Analysis

  • 1-3+ years of progressive experience in analysis, modeling and design of systems

  • Proficient in Matlab, C/C++, Python or related languages

  • Working knowledge of actuators, sensors, intelligent control principles, micro devices, opto-electronic systems, and systems integration

  • Translating functional objectives to design; determination of sensed and manipulated variables; selection of and interface requirements for sensors, actuators, analog/digital electronics, microcontroller and the like

  • Prototype development, optimization, signal processing, decision and control, fault diagnostic, etc.

  • Leverage advanced sensors and analytics to contribute to the development and integration of prototype systems that improve our ability to provide life safety solutions in hazardous industrial environments

  • Product development process experience in design, modeling, simulation, analysis, refinement and validation cycle

  • Organized and systematic in designing and conducting experimental research

  • Must have excellent written and verbal skills and an open attitude for continuous improvement.

  • Ability to perform under stress and meet guidelines, to work cooperatively and respectfully with others and the ability to contribute in a cross-functional development team

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred Experience:

  • 3-5 years’ experience in algorithm development

  • Expertise in optical sensing systems, image processing and sensor array algorithm development

  • Expertise in mathematical modeling and knowledge of linear and non-linear systems

  • Proficient with Matlab and Simulink

  • Graduate level coursework in and/or work experience in digital filtering, linear algebra, stochastic processes, estimation theory and detection theory

  • Proven record of innovative research via publications or patents

Education:

  • Doctoral degree in science or engineering or Master’s degree with 1-3 years of relevant sensor algorithm development and image processing

  • Desired fields of study: Mathematics, Statistics, Physics or Electrical Engineering; other disciplines with relevant sensor algorithm development research and/or industrial experience
