Robert Half Accountemps Full Charge Bookkeeper in CHEVY CHASE, Maryland

Based in Chevy Chase, Maryland, the Full Charge Bookkeeper role is a short term temporary-to-fulltime opportunity. The role will be responsible for all general accounting and bookkeeping functions including the preparation of financial statements. You will also be establishing and maintaining the organization's accounting principles, practices, procedures, and initiatives.

Key responsibilities

  • Retaining historical records through the accurate filing of documents

  • Tracking fixed assets to produce depreciation schedules

  • Ensuring monthly, quarterly and year end close happens accurately and on time

  • Processing accounts payable and accounts receivable; handling collections as needed

  • Maintaining knowledge of current federal, state, and local legal requirements, ensuring adherence to them, filing reports, and communicating with management on needed actions

  • Overseeing work of accounting clerks and entry-level bookkeepers

  • Preparing the trial balance and financial statements, including balance sheet and statements regarding income and cash flows

  • Handling reconciliations for bank and general ledgers, and processing payroll

  • Prior experience with Quickbooks and Peachtree

  • Knowledgeable of accrual and cash basis of accounting

  • 3 or more years of experience in the bookkeeping field

  • Ability to multitask, collaborate and communicate well with individuals of all backgrounds in a fast-paced environment

  • Experience with payroll preferred

  • Competence with financial data analysis and report generation that is prompt and accurate

  • High school diploma or equivalent required, and AA degree or higher in Accounting or Business preferred

  • Strong time management and organizational skills

  • Account reconciliation experience desired

  • Bank reconciliations experience

  • Journal entries experience highly desired

  • Foundational knowledge in accounts receivable

  • Adeptness in Microsoft Excel

  • Accounts payable experience

  • Demonstrated flexibility to adapt to changes in procedures and job assignments

  • Capable of working independently with minimal oversight
