Transportation Specialist I

Job Description:

The Transportation Specialist I will tender orders to 3rd party carriers, communicate and place orders with internal Deployment Technicians, contact external clients to schedule orders, and resolve issues within the life cycle of the job from pickup to delivery. This role will communicate information regarding the transportation and recovery of jobs to management as needed. The perfect candidate would be self-motivated, client focused, and work well in a team environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Communicate information with the carriers, including scheduling of jobs, obtaining shipping documents, tracking numbers and proof of deliveries, etc.

  • Maintain and follow approved routing guide for carriers and processing centers

  • Assist in shipping requests by processing shipping report in order to setup and contact carriers for pickup

  • Process minor shipping requests including redirecting freight, changing freight terms, etc. as needed or requested by management

  • Research and Resolve issues: missed pickups, onsite issues, carrier charge backs, and domestic carrier account issues and damaged inventory, etc.

  • Handle inquiries from processing centers, sales and client experience regarding transportation with professionalism and a high level of customer care

  • Other general duties and special projects as assigned

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for overseeing and ensuring the safe and cost effective delivery of company and customer owned product.

  • Maintain inbound and outbound routing guides and monitor compliance

  • Monitor and report carrier performance, hold periodic reviews with carriers and take corrective action as required.

  • Assist carriers and distribution centers in resolving issues regarding loading, unloading, appointments and daily pick execution.

  • Administer freight payment programs; monitor payment process and reporting of information.

  • Assist in developing and implementing savings and process improvement programs with carriers, suppliers, warehouse operations and other transportation related providers.

  • Prepare reports and other presentation materials as required by department leadership. Collaborate with Product Management, Finance, Sales, and other functional areas touching Transportation functions to facilitate reporting or other projects as needed.

Job Complexity:

  • Has no discretion to vary from established procedures

  • Has no related work experience or has work experience but requires formal training in theories/concepts in own function

  • Experience in third-party logistics and/or supply chain

  • Transportation industry knowledge with an emphasis on Ground carriers or Third Party Logistics a bonus

Experience / Education:

  • Typically requires a 4 year degree and 1–2 years of experience or a 2 year degree and equivalent related experience
