What is the main purpose of the job? This role further facilitates the exposure and penetration of CLNA category management and is an essential role providing category leadership enhancing retail partnerships by increasing category sales and aiding in fact based/strategic selling.

Strong contributions leveraging syndicated/POS scanning sales data, and knowledge and use of outside sources and shopper insights to uncover opportunities for key accounts, sales team, and also internal departments (both sales and marketing strategies)

The Category Manager uses category, and shopper insights data to create a clear direction for the category to align Walmart/Target and Philip's strategies and tactics, and will work collaboratively with Shopper Insights, the Sales Team, U.S. Headquarter Category Management, Sales Planning and Strategy and Walmart to achieve Philip’s objectives

  1. Dedicated ownership of specified Categories by providing strategic and tactical recommendations to Walmart/Target buyers on the Distribution, Shelving, Merchandising, and Pricing goals to improve category performance. Create plan designed to maximize the category and gain alignment from retail customer. R A

  2. Develop relationships broadly within the retailer organization (beyond the buyer) as a category consultant by providing expertise and actionable recommendations positively impacting category results.

  1. Manage category development toolkit to achieve a comprehensive set of data including both account trends and consumer insights.

Join the dynamic Category Management team at Philips North America to work alongside highly driven and passionate team mates to help Customers and Philips realize profitable category growth.

We are looking for an innovative and creative thinker and doer who, with out of the box thinking, strong thought leadership and vision, and persistence and dedication, can gain influence with buyers in our key categories. Category Management expertise is important but this is not a cookie cutter advisor position – we want to strive for maximum influence but to get there creative thinking with resources beyond POS and Panel (i.e. with Shopper and Analytics is a MUST). This is an individual who is able and excited to venture into unchartered territory to grow influence with Walmart. We are also looking for this individual to be a trusted partner to Sales to support with moving the needle, and also advising the team on where to find opportunities, balancing this with a category hat on. And finally, strategic input to Philips internally business planning to provide a Walmart perspective to help guide decisions.

You are responsible for

  • Leverage shopper, analytic and category expertise to grow influence with Walmart - develop transformational, fact-based recommendations on how to reimage Personal Care, Oral Care and Infant Feeding categories through shopper insights, consumer insights, advanced analytics (where available) and POS/Panel data

  • Collaborate with Philips Category Management and Sales leadership to build Category Management capabilities for Philips Personal Health at Walmart and grow thought leadership leading to profitable category growth for Walmart and Philips

  • Grow influence with Walmart by developing transformational, fact-based recommendations on how to reimage Personal Care, Oral Care and Infant Feeding categories through analytics, consumer & shopper insights, that will create value in the category and aisle

  • Develop and deploy best in class category management and analytic practices within the Category management team, assuming leadership role on key internal initiatives to drive next level thinking across the team

  • Consistently deliver competitive and Walmart intelligence to HQ teams to help with business planning and decision making

Grow Influence with Walmart and drive Best in class Category Management Recommendations

  • Create and plan category leadership solutions that should include shopper and category insights across: item assortment (everyday/new products/promoted/seasonal), everyday shelving and merchandising, pricing and promotions

  • Use category insights data to create a clear direction for assigned categories, optimizing the 4 Ps and leading key next generation aisle initiatives

  • In accordance to Philips Strategic Category & Sales initiatives, execute, category leadership solutions agreed to with Walmart to accelerate both Category and Philips growth (including setting success measures, following through and monitoring)

  • Where appropriate, manage and deliver against the responsibilities of the Category Captaincy/Advisory process in partnership with the customer and advisor manufacturer partners

  • Own assortment and lead planogram activities - adjust local retailer assortment and portfolio to meet existing consumer trends

  • Commission and commercialize shopper insights projects driving improved merchandising and buyer conversion opportunities.

Build partnerships

  • Establish relationships with key Walmart stakeholders, Philips leaders and partners

  • Support Philips Business Planning efforts through a customer category vision in conjunction with Sales to meet the key strategic Sales initiatives. Category provides input but would not solely create and implement.

  • Work with Philips HQ Insights team to identify specific insights opportunities, assist with any research, and help deliver category leadership solutions benefitting both Walmart and Philips

  • Independently analyze multiple data sources including point of sale, household panel, and shopper information to identify opportunities to drive business strategy and performance

  • Underpin success of line reviews by providing sales with support to achieve their key business objectives

Identify opportunities

  • Identify specific research opportunities (shopper, consumer, etc.) to bring new learning to category leadership solutions

  • Evaluate/monitor all customer category leadership solutions, turn analysis into recommended action and continually improve to be more effective and efficient for category at customer

  • Leverage insights and resources through the utilization of a broad range of data sources, market research findings, tools, analyses, and technology to continually bring new (revenue generating) shopper ideas to Walmart and Philips

  • Analyze and deliver post mortems of key holiday time frames in order to provide the organizations with recommendations on how to optimize promotional plans

You are a part of

You will report directly to the Director of Category Management for Philips U.S. based in Stamford, Connecticut. You will join a team of 10 driven and highly knowledgeable category management professionals located in Stamford, Minneapolis and NWA. We are tight knit, high performing team sharing best practices and continually driving improvement and enhancement to what we deliver to customers and internal teams.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of business experience, with at least 5 years in Category Management at key accounts, including Walmart
