Job Description: To establish adequacy of appraisals of complex residential properties for real estate related transaction decisions in accordance with internal policies/procedures, industry standards and regulatory requirements. Incumbent will engage 3rd party vendors to prepare appraisal reports on real property offered as collateral in connection with various transaction requests; will review and analyze reports upon receipt for compliance with Federal and State regulations including FIRREA and USPAP, as well as for reasonableness of value conclusion. Appraisals not deemed adequate require modifications and/or corrections by the appraiser or rejection of the appraisal by the Review Appraiser. Participate in monitoring market and development risks. Coordinate relationships with appraisers and provide appropriate guidance in order to ensure integrity of the valuation process. In conjunction with management, support the external audit process with additional information and clarification as needed. Participate in management meetings and assist immediate supervisor in managing the office operations and training less experienced personnel. Lead or participate in key projects (e.g. complex assignments, diversified duties and management of related assignments are typical) and specialized research. Sound judgment and independent decision making are required.
Skills: Strong analytical and writing ability. Strong oral communication and presentation skills are required. Must be proficient in Word, Excel, and Appraisal Management software. Must be self-motivated and manage time efficiently to meet service level deadlines. Deep knowledge of local real estate areas and neighborhoods and good understanding of other markets served. Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and environment. Broad financial market understanding including underwriting and credit concepts. Demonstrated knowledge of high-end residential real estate types and borrowers. Demonstrated understanding of information technology and operational concepts, including databases, data management and workflow management. In-depth Understanding of various high-end residential construction types, flood/environmental hazards, earthquake and zoning conditions.
Experience: Requires a 4 year college degree, a State Certified General Appraiser License and a minimum 10 years’ experience appraising and/or reviewing appraisals of high-end residential property types for high net worth clients. Ability to analyze properties with extremely complex characteristics. Project and people management experience preferred. SRA designation from the Appraisal Institute or an equivalent advanced education is required.
