The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a wide range of technical and analytical leadership duties involving diversified and complex manufacturing and quality programs, processes, projects, or problems. These duties will focus on maintaining & improving the key processes of the Quality Systems Development & Management and the Contract Review and Requirements flowdown Sub-disciplines of the overall Quality Discipline. Collectively, the execution of these sub-disciplines establishes the foundation for the P&W Quality Management System.

As Discipline Chief, the candidate will have primary responsibility for development/approval and improvement of applicable quality standard work; ensuring existing processes are executed in a compliant and efficient manner. The Discipline Chief also approves execution/deviations to standard work, assigns/concurs with proficiency levels for practitioners, and supports the training curriculum for the assigned sub-discipline.

As a key member of the Advanced Quality Systems Leadership team, the discipline chief may be assigned to;

  • lead or participate on select policy deployment or other business improvement teams, which requires the ability to conduct thorough analysis of complex quality process variables to provide innovative approaches (e.g. game changing / out of the box) for resolution of problems or defined process improvements,

  • draft or develop materials for use in Company publications, presentations or documentation to customers, employees, or other audiences,

  • conduct select contract review activities, ensuring the identification of customer quality requirements, which may include the drafting/development/improvement of contract responses to customers and or the development/revision to quality plans for customers or partners.

  • develop discipline training materials and deliver training to a select audience that may include customers, executives, leaders, discipline participants and other interested parties.

As a key member of the technical leadership team, the discipline chief, in concert with the fellows, will support the evolution of the strategic direction for the sub-discipline, advance the level of knowledge within the sub-discipline, assist in the development/maintenance of applicable technology, tools & methods, and will be expected to coach, mentor & develop the talent within the assigned sub-discipline of Quality.

The candidate will likely be required to handle multiple complex projects/tasks concurrently. The ability to work independently with limited supervision in a fast paced environment while maintaining collaborative discipline linkages will be a key to success.


Sound business judgment, strong organization, leadership, team building, interpersonal, communications, and writing skills are required for success. A working understanding of Quality System requirements, knowledge of AS9100 requirements, and a thorough knowledge of the ACE operating system are essential. A demonstrated performance of past productivity and a high degree of computer literacy is also required. A broad knowledge of the quality, engineering, procurement, & manufacturing disciplines is necessary. This person must have the capability and personal skills to interface seamlessly with all levels of P&W Management within Quality, in other (external) organizations and major business units (PW and UTC wide). A passion for quality and a thirst for knowledge & understanding are key personal attributes for this position. 10+ years of experience, required.
